Should You Ask Your Client For A Review?
Reviews are an amazing opportunity to expand your growth mindset. We want you to stretch yourself and reviews are the easiest way to do it. Like every artist, the nail tech’s work should be open to a constructive critique not criticism. Does the truth have to hurt? The answer is no, if you stay curious. There is nothing to fear in the good or bad review. Asking your nail clients for their honest feedback is the thing to do. Just make sure to use the feedback for your benefit. It’s a chance for the nail pro to see themselves through another’s eyes. HOW DID YOUNG NAILS START?
Thirty years ago in the Southern California, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Love You” and Naughty By Nature’s “Hip Hop Hooray” played on the air waves in heavy rotation. MTV launched it’s irreverent animated series “Beavis & Butthead”. The kids watched “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” on Fox while their parents said farewell to their favorite day-time talk show queen Sally Jessy Raphael and the first ever Got Milk? commercial aired. MY CLIENT CHEATED ON ME!
Losing a client can really shake up your confidence and put a dent in your professional progress. It never feels good to lose a customer, unless you were already trying to show them the door. Alas, it’s a part of business. Are there any special rules of engagement (or disengagement) when you find yourself in a client break up? Should you head into confrontation mode or do as Gwenyth might, “consciously uncouple”? How can you separate yourself from up in your feelings and switch into a more detached business one? How will future clients benefit from your current negative experience, turning your perspective from bad to good? What might this departure say about you, your service and work ethic?[...]January 20, 2021 -
DEBUNKING COMMON MYTHS ABOUT NAILS!
Myths exist in the world of nail care and they often get passed around as “truth” from one ear to the next. Whether they are based in fact or fiction, sometimes the narrative is just too irresistible. Here are a few that make the rounds in the salon. Gel is better than acrylic for the natural nail, true or false? Do my nails need to “breathe”? Will your clients run for the hills if you raise your prices? Does the bogeyman exist? We sift through it all and debunk what we can right here.[...]December 15, 2020 -
When My Clients Need A Reality Check
There are our expectations and then there is real life. They often share a few threads of similarity but not much. Now let’s talk about client expectations versus reality in the nail salon. If the walls could talk, we’d have a hit TV drama on our hands! Are you familiar with the phrase, rigorous honesty? It’s brutal honesty’s softer and kinder cousin; but it’s no less direct. Rigorous honesty is the thing that gives you permission to speak the truth in every situation. It’s an observation made without fear and wrapped in kind intentions.[...]November 17, 2020 -
OUTDOOR NAIL SALONS
Due to the current pandemic conditions, new regulations in California severely limited nail salon operations to outdoor service. In the time before Covid, such a thing would have been considered insane and in violation of everything taught in cosmetology school. Sometimes it feels like the local government’s response for reopening the beauty and nail industry might cause more harm than good for business. Give it points for creativity but it’s more of a stop gap than a well considered solution. The impracticality leaves us all scratching our heads.[...]November 6, 2020
